Description

The world of sport touring has changed: ride longer, ride farther, ride safer.

The ROADTEC™ 01 from Metzeler is the leader in the sport touring segment, offering different structures (radial and conventional) and focusing on better grip on wet surfaces and those with low friction, increased longevity, and a higher level of adaptability to different bikes, riding styles, and conditions.

Grip on all types of asphalt.

Enhanced compound solution improves chemical grip and adhesive properties in various situations.
Our patented mixing process delivers a more homogeneous compound that enhances chemical properties and leads to better wear resistance.
The radial front tyres feature a 100% silica compound, providing excellent chemical grip as well as mechanical grip created by the groove layout.
The radial rear tyres are characterised by a two-compound arrangement where the central strip covers approximately 20% of the tyre width and the remaining 80% is evenly distributed between the two shoulders.
The central strip has a balanced mixture of silica and carbon black to improve high-speed stability, heat dispersion, and provide a balance between abrasion resistance and grip.
The 100% silica compound on the shoulders is similar to the front tyre. Combined with the tread groove design, it delivers excellent grip even on surfaces with low friction.
Using a similar compound on the shoulders of both front and rear tyres offers a consistent contact feel in corners.
The Cap&Base pattern - characterised by a thin layer of central compound extending under the shoulder compound - provides good heat distribution.
All ROADTEC™ 01 radials are paired with INTERACT™ technology (0° steel belt) Metzeler, contributing to precision in handling and high longevity.
All ROADTEC™ 01 with a conventional structure feature a unique carbon black-based compound with a silica percentage close to 30% that utilises the heat generated by the structure to reach the optimal operating temperature and provide ideal dry grip. Special resins enhance the mobility of the compound and its adhesive properties for incomparable wet grip.

Safety on wet surfaces and surfaces with low friction.

With the ROADTEC™ 01, Metzeler has developed a new tread concept capable of improving mechanical traction, with a clearly noticeable benefit during acceleration and braking.
The front tyre is characterised by a large number of transverse grooves that grip the asphalt and improve water evacuation.
The rear tyre features long grooves and short grooves with opposite orientations and different functions.
During braking, the short grooves prevent lateral movement and increase the stability of the bike.
During acceleration, the long grooves improve traction of the compound, especially on surfaces with low friction.
The orientation of the grooves also contributes to increasing longevity: the groove design and their depth have been conceived to influence a high solid/void ratio and a large area of rubber in contact with the ground.
At the same time, the orientation of the grooves follows the direction of wear patterns, ensuring regular wear of the tread and allowing it to last until the end of the tyre's life.
The shape and layout, aside from being a distinctive feature of the ROADTEC™ 01 tread, significantly contribute to maximising water evacuation capability and mechanical friction.

Longevity and consistent performance.

The ROADTEC™ 01 boasts a longevity that is 10% superior to that of the ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™. Innovative profiles generate a short and wide contact area that reduces compound consumption and increases wear consistency.
The contact area of the ROADTEC™ 01 is shorter but wider, resulting in a larger surface area than that of the ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™. This results in two main effects:

  • A reduced compound slip, significantly delaying the wear process of the rubber.
  • The weight of the bike and acceleration forces are distributed over a larger surface area, thus reducing the stress on the compound and overheating.

The contact surface of the ROADTEC™ 01 includes more grooves and edges in contact with the road, improving mechanical grip, water evacuation, and the feeling of safety. It also allows for more rubber in contact with the ground, especially during medium lean angles, enabling the chemical grip to be beneficial from the start of the lean.

Stability and trajectory precision.

The structures of the ROADTEC™ 01 are characterised by more flexible carcasses (compared to the ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™) allowing the compound to deform to favour mechanical grip, improve adherence to the roughness of the asphalt, and facilitate the absorption of road irregularities.
Metzeler takes advantage of its entire technological portfolio in various applications to provide the best solution to meet product performance objectives and ensure that both radial and X-ply structures are used, combined with either a diagonal belt or a 0° steel belt with INTERACT™ technology. The structure of each size in the ROADTEC™ 01 range is tuned in terms of construction and materials based on the specific needs of each application.
